Preservation through practice.

The primary focus of The Prototype Press is to continue the traditions of typecasting, letterpress printing and hand bookbinding. This is accomplished through the constant and consistent creation of fine press books utilizing the tools and techniques acquired by the proprietor, Mark Sarigianis over the last twenty years. Editions sizes range from 15 to 100, with new works released every one to two years. Books titles are chosen at the whim of the proprietor, with recurring focuses on twentieth century American literature, as well non-fiction works on the subjects of cooking and outdoor pursuits. Each project features original artwork from a collaborating visual artist.

The press also periodically releases fresh casting of metal type for sale, as well as a variety of ephemera. Custom work and collaborations are considered.

Originally founded by David Johnston as Sharp Teeth Press in 2011, the press lives on under the direction of Mark after David tragically passed away on October 3rd, 2015.
He will always be remembered.
